Chaozhou intends to apply for the City of Gastronomy under UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network (UCCN), hoping to introduce and promote the local cuisine abroad. 

    Launched in 2004, UCCN is the leading NGO to promote cooperation among cities that recognize creativity as a major factor in sustainable development. City of Gastronomy, one of the project’s seven creative fields, is of significant international influence.

    Via videoconference, three successful domestic applicants, i.e., Chengdu (Sichuan Province), Shunde (Guangdong Province) and Yangzhou (Jiangsu Province), shared their experience and provided professional guidance. 

    Cui Jianjun, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Municipal Committee, pointed out that the application was a measure to react to the essential speeches and instructions to the city by President Xi Jinping in his visit to Guangdong Province. Relevant departments at all levels should keep their minds on the work, providing strong leadership and careful planning and organization through productive joint sessions and a clear and detailed division of tasks. With synergy, we could make the catering industry bigger and stronger and build a global reputation as a paradise for gourmets.
