A dramatic local cuisine competition was held in Chaozhou Vocational School's practice kitchens on the afternoon of November 3rd, 2018. During the contest, mouth-watering aromas came after the sound of burning oil on the busy stoves. Hanshan Normal College and Chaozhou Vocational School sent five cooking-majored students, respectively, to compete. Every contestant needed to finish three dishes, i.e., steamed mullet, wheat ear-shaped squid and Chaozhou spring roll, within two hours.
Nine judges from the city’s cooking association set the criteria and scored the dishes for their color, aroma, taste, looks, ingredients and timing both on-site and in blind reviews. It was worth mentioning that many judges themselves are national culinary masters and senior national assessors of vocational qualifications.
Qian Shimao, Director of the Municipal Bureau of Human Resources and Social Security, said, “Both schools cultivate good cooks of Chaozhou cuisine. We expect competition with high standards and strict requirements. It is a good chance to test student's basic skills and improve gastronomy education and expertise. Contestants will better understand that it takes exquisite craftsmanship and attention to details to make a good cook.”
